Review: Your committing Fraud
The hospital submitted a claim on my behalf for a routine colonoscopy; date of service 4/22/11. Assurant denied payment because you claimed it was a pre-existing condition. The doctor had provided the hospital with a wrong billing code. The hospital re-submitted the claim, indicating that it was a routine colonoscoy. Assurant declined the claim again, stating that the hospital did not submit any back up documentation as to whether the billing code was changed. On 10/3 the hospital faxed all the medical records of the procedure. I called Assurant today almost a month later and I was told that the billing code was not changed. You are commiting fraud by not paying a bill that is cover by my policy I have been insured all my life; and this is the fist time that I am dealing with scammers like you. Totally unacceptable behavior from an insurance company that claims to be the leader on health insurance.

Review: Read Your Policy
My experience with Assurant has been exactly what was outlined in the policy. Health insurance is a complicated game, especially with reform and the states stepping in. I had a good agent who explained what was going to be covered and how and had no surprises when i submitted claims.

Review: The WORST Insurance CO
Save your money and get real insurance from Blue Cross. Assurant is an over priced scam, we paid thousands a year for coverage and were even denied the ability to have my husbands MRI deducted from our annual deductible which was already 3,500.

Nothing was covered and nothing was allowed as a deductible. No health insurance and paying for your own health care is better. I am pretty sure if you were dying of a terminal illness Assurant would find a way to deny coverage. I never had a single problem with any other health insurance company before, i.e., Travelers and Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Review: Assurant Huge Mistake!
We switched to Assurant after we were told by coworkers how great the coverage was. The insurance agent also had us get "gap" coverage and said that there would be no more than $250.00 out of pocket per occurance per person. However, he didn't explain that if Assurant doesn't cover it that the gap won't either. We explained that our 19 year old daughter had Myoclonus Dystonia, a genetic variety, very rare. He made a phone call and said, yes she would be covered. However, there is a mental/behavioral component to the brain disorder and medications can cause behavioral issues, so guess what? Assurant doesn't cover her because they rely on the mental/behavioral aspect of her disorder to deny her claims. She has been hospitalized 3 times since the first of the year and we are now saddled with more the "$250" per occurance we are looking at $10,000 dollars to date and she needs more testing. We were trying to protect ourselves from financial ruin because of this genetic disorder. Don't recommend you go with Assurant. We were also not told about the 4 visit limitation in network visits. Well, our daughter can easily require a visit to the doc (and a specialist at that!) 4 times a month. So now we have to pay out of pocket for that as well. Nightmare.

Review: Don't do it!!!
Poor insurance, tried to cancel my policies but couldn't get them to stop automatic deductions from my bank account. It has been 3 months and deductions still continue to be taken out. Call after call had had no effect. Seems they only keep the notes that they want to keep on their records and calls to cancel seem to disappear.

Review: High Premiums, No Benefits, Bad Customer Service
We first signed up with Assurant because they came recommended by USAA. My husband & I both own a company, so we bought our own private policy for us & our 2 kids. Deciding to go with them was a HUGE mistake!

First off, finding a doctor to use in their network was a nightmare! Half the provider information they have on their website (phone #s, etc.) are wrong, and about 90% of the in-network doctors I was able to get a hold of were not accepting new patients.

In addition, after receiving our first doctor bill, I discovered that the sales rep had signed us up for the wrong plan...a deductible-only plan where we were paying over $400/mo in premium, PLUS 100% of every doctor bill after the Assurant "discount" (which was less than a cash discount rate!). Of course I called to inform them of the error in my plan. The Assurant phone number provided to me on my paperwork from them was incorrect, so every time I called, I was transfered several times before reaching someone who could actually help me. I left multiple messages over several weeks with my sales rep that were never returned. Finally I asked to speak with the rep's supervisor, who explained to me that they had been very busy and that sales reps could not make outgoing calls when there were calls coming in. This was supposed to be a reasonable explanation why no one ever called me??? The supervisor then transferred me to a different sales rep, who was very rude and didn't listen to anything I was telling him I was looking for in my plan. We ended up getting disconnected, and at that point I had had it & decided to go with Blue Cross Blue Shield (who we had used before in Arizona & loved).

When I called back to cancel my Assurant policy, the retention person I spoke with was not apologetic for the service I had been receving, or my dissatisfaction with them, and basically she tried to "bully" me into staying with them.

Everything about this company is HORRIBLE. Bottom line...save yourself a lot of trouble & money & use someone else!!

Review: assurant killing peoples credit
my mother recently had a stint put in and when she got the bill assurant only paid $2000 out of 39,000. That's just the hospital that don't include the things they didn't cover for her cardiologist! she now is facing medically bankrupcy and has no insurance, she cancelled it after they scammed her, she paid her premiums but when it came time to pay Assurant said
to bad. Now she has no insurance because now other companies call her "high risk" yep not using pre-existing any more but they found away around it. After 63 years of working she has nothing to show for it because of this stinking company!

Review: S-T policy is no good. Customer svc bad.
I got Assurant Health (short term) for our 2 college age boys. They sent them an email with a link to coverage info that expired in 30 days. The boys did not open the link in that time, so I (the payor)called to request that cards and benefit info be mailed to them. They never were. I called about 3 times. My insurance rep called a couple of times as well. We were never able to use the plan as they never sent cards, policy numbers or anything. The policies expired after 6 months (the max). I filed complaints with the state and the company to no avail. Big waste of time.
I hope that health care reform will eliminate companies like this one.

Review: dont pay claims & discriminate
My husband and I have had assurant health for over 12 yrs. he is self employed so we went with this company after our main ins co.(USAA) recommended assurant many moons ago- what a BIG MISTAKE - we have paid very high premiums from the get go- we were both healthy at the time, and yrs later several health problems. I have RA so I am pretty much stuck with this insurance co- as no one else will cover me- ok get ready for this - we both have a deductible of $5000, and then they pay 1/2 our 2nd deductible is $8,000 and then they pay 100% (NOT) and our premiums are $3,277.00 a quarter, yes that is correct! 2 yrs. ago I found out I inherited the BRCA gene from my mother who died of ovarian cancer- so I recently I went and had a hysterectomy ( my sister also has the gene had the same done and no problems with her ins co) now assurant health says this is a preventative procedure will not pay - so let;s see they would rather me possibly develop ovarian cancer - the silent killer- and then have to pay the extreme of chemo, etc and risk my life - also before my hysterectomy they never paid any claims to my Gyno for internal ultrasounds and CA125 test because they said all this was preventative. My Gyno has written several ltrs. to ins. co, and they could careless. This Ins. co is callous, uncaring all they want is to be paid and not shell out a dime when it comes to paying claims. I feel they are discriminating because I have the BRCA gene which I have no control over I inherited this gene and I have told them this and they get silent- it is ILLEGAL to discriminate when you have inherited something you have no control over. STAY AWAY THEY WILL CAUSE YOU NOTHING BUT TOTAL GRIEF!!!!

Review: Waste of Money
Assurant Health has been a complete waste of money. They deny all claims and apply nothing to your deductible. They will not cover basic physicals for adults or children until you have been with them 12 months. I do not recommend them to anyone and should have put the premium per month into a savings account, at least I would have the money to pay for the claims Assurant does not cover.

Review: Pay for very little
I thought I was getting coverage for doctor visits but found out the visits must fall into Assurants approved visits. Example, my son missed a Hepatitis shot when he was younger so my physician did a "tetter" test to see if he was immune. I received a $500 bill and Assurant will not even apply it to the deductible. They new my daughter was on Singulair and I pay extra for that benefit but when I went to pick it up, my portion was $128 and they paid $20 again doesn't go toward deductible.

Review: Good Insurance - If you have lots of $$$$
Good insurance coverage. No hassle claims payments. Very expensive. I just turned 55 and my rate went up $200 per mo. AND my wife's also went up the same amount(???) We now pay a total of...$1,650 per month. I have to leave Assurant as we can not afford them.
