Review: Have Had No Issues w/AMS -- Really!
When I first got AMS insurance around 2002 or so, I was a little leary because I hadn't heard of them before. But I have not had any poor experiences with them.

I'm in a high-deductible ($2600) HSA plan (no co-pays; no drug discounts; they pay 100% after the ded is met). And they pay $300 per year in "check-up" type visits (reg check-up; ob/gyn; other check-up) (which I finally took advantage of in 2009 -- my ob/gyn is not in the group so I just pay her & don't submit it -- I may change Dr's in the future).

I came in as an allergy patient since 1989, but typically see the allergy Dr for sinus infections (which was on my application). They never denied my visits to the Dr for sinus infections (I usually see the Dr once per year for this).

One year I showed up in ER with pain - it was pancreatitis. Was in the hospital for about 5 days. Per my insurance agent's suggestion, I created an Excel spreadsheet to manage the bills and claims. Most providers were smart and submitted their claim to AMS after the hospital submitted their claim (thus, the hospital's bill fell under "before ded is met" and "after ded is met", and the providers submitting after that were paid timely). One provider (the outside vendor that provided the floor doctor ["hospitalist" - whatever!]) sent in their claim first. That Dr was out of network, of course, so they were "before the ded". I ended up cutting a deal with the vendor. Everything else was paid. And, for the rest of that year, all Dr visits (i.e. dermatologist, etc.) were paid. Also, any prescriptions I got for the rest of the year (which I pay for) were reimbursed timely.

I had another ER visit last year for a surprise allergic reaction to ?? That bill was much more than the deductible and, once the amount hit the $2600 mark, AMS paid the hospital the balance right away. (Then I just go on a payment plan with the hospital for my balance with them.)

After that, I decided to go for physical therapy for my shoulder, which had been prescribed a couple months earlier. The physical therapy group had to work to get some things paid that AMS wasn't paying -- but they got AMS to cooperate and a month or two later, my balance was zero.
