| Review: | STAY AWAY!!!! I cannot express how horrible my experience with Aetna was. I am an active, nonsmoking healthy woman in her 20s. The advertised rate for me was a little under $100. When I filled out all my forms and did the phone interview my rate came back at $224! The reason was that I had been to the doctor for a minor sinus infection once in the past year and they counted that as "chronic sinusitis." Also, I have had a mole on my back since childhood. One day I asked my doctor about it and he said it looked fine but he'd take it off right then if I wanted. I had it taken off and it tested completely benign. Aetna decided that I was "prone to potentially precancerous moles" even though there was only one and it was not cancerous at all. So being stupid I accepted their premium because I thought that rate was the norm and I didn't want to be without insurance. About a month later I saw my doctor, and Aetna denied my claim saying that I had been without coverage before I got them (I had about a month lapse between my employer covered insurance and Aetna) and therefore my "condition" (which was a simple infection) was "preexisiting" and they would not cover it. Having a lapse in your insurance is completely unrelated to having a preexisting condition, plus this was not preexisting, but it didn't matter to them. In addition to all of this, they robocall you about once a week with stupid health tips and surveys and "information" about your policy. Finally after about a year I decided to switch to Blue Shield (much better!) and cancel Aetna. The guy on the phone said I had to submit my request for cancellation in writing. So I immediately sent an email asking for immediate cancellation and a refund of the 15 days left in the period I had already paid for. No response, and I still got a bill for the next period. I wrote CANCEL all across the bill, wrote another letter requesting cancellation and a refund and attached my first email. Then I got a bill for double the next month. I called and told them this was my fourth request that they cancel my policy and refund my last 15 days, and the lady on the phone said I had to send them proof that I had new insurance. Now, I did have new insurance, but I asked her why that was her business. It's no concern of theirs what sort of business I want to do with another company. All they need to be concerned with is that I want to terminate my relationship with them. To hold you hostage and force you to stay with them until you have a new provider is completely absurd. I did email them a copy of my new insurance card just to be done with them, and I guess I'll see if they actually cancel my policy and give me a refund (2 months after my first request.) My advice is NOT to do business with them. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Aetna-SRC poorest insurance ever This company is good at collecting premiums, but pays for very little. Once I calmly and nicely asked the customer service rep if they ever pay for anything? She hung up on me! Stay away from Aetna/SRC if you want them to do anything other than collecting premiums. | Review: | Dental and Aenta Not good Everytime I called Aenta to get my dental cards they would tell me it takes 7 to 10 business days. Well now it's 3 months later and after many calls they still haven't sent the cards. And than you can't get in to see an Aenta dentist until Aenta sends them a list with your name on it. Everytime I called I was the blame game they liked to play. First the other rep got the wrong info, than my husbands company haven't gotten back to them. Now I need to see a dentist I can't and most likely won't be able to unless I pay for it myself. So way pay for thier dental insurance when you can't use it. I would not even let my dog have this coverage. Now I have to canceal surgery I was set to do at the end of the month because I need clearance from the dentist. Talk about being messed up all they want is your money and not to put nothing out. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | They steal and lie... Beware of Aetna's policies. Somehow this company gets away with taking large sums of money from their members - $200 in my case - and then telling lie after lie to cover it up and explain it away, all while you get no benefit from the money you lose. Whatever you do, carefully track and document every transaction you initiate, every unpleasant phone conversation with their incompetent, rude and unpleasant staff, and then pray like crazy that you'll be treated with a modicum of respect or honesty, or actually get what you wanted. Good luck with this company. After this episode, I'm going to take my chances with someone else. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Aetna-promising the worst insurance, ever! I am a perfectly healthy, 20 year old, full time college student. My parents do not have insurance so they atleast wanted to cover me. Not that they do not want health insurance, just cannot afford to cover all of us. Anyways, we decided to apply for Aetna who promised a $53 a month payment. Finally, something we could halfway afford. After going through the practically 2 month process of filling out paperwork, speaking on the phone with them, waiting for them to send things, etc. they informed us that they were going to raise the monthly premiums from $53, to $85!!! Want to know why? Because I had ONE UTI that came and went, and that I was treated for. That doctors appointment, for one uti, cost us $800 without insurance. Blood tests were $575 and the doctors appointment was $215. This is outrageous. I have never had anything wrong with me but one uti. Have never had one before and they described it as a "preexisting medical condition." A UTI in a woman is not a medical condition. It is as common in a woman as a cold. You can get a UTI from several things. Aetna is heartless, and only out for money. It's sad what this world is coming to and it's sad to think that people don't have a heart for another. Since it has happened so often, it must be the culture of Aetna to allow it. Shame on Aetna and the training staff for allowing their clients to be subjected to such poor customer service. | Review: | Bait and Switch I have a healthy family. Was quoted a rate. I signed up. In the past 6 months, my rate has increased 3 times. They get your attention by having the lowest rates, but they dont even wait a year to send you a letter about the increase. My first increase letter came within 90 days. The third today. How can they do this? Bait and Switch. Isn't that illegal? Oh yeah, my family is healthy and we haven't even used the insurance. Comments [ 3 ] |

| Review: | Deceptive Quote Practices When you have this company quote a health insurance package - don't give them your credit card number! After requesting a quote on a health insurance package, I rejected the quote on their sent e-mail form. Then sent them an additional e-mail rejecting quote and called them rejecting the quote. They went ahead and billed my credit card anyway! Had to work with my credit card company to reverse charges. Company run like a back alley shop operation. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | VERY POOR COVERAGE & DECEPTIVE They don't update their doctors, and I haven't found a doctor yet who is in their network. If I go out of network, my $3000 deductible HSA policy becomes $6000 deductible. Also, I found out, after going to a doctor, that they don't count doctor visits or blood work toward the deductible. (I just had $900 worth of lab work done.) So my $200 doctor visit and $900 worth of lab tests don't even count toward my deductible. Also, if you try to call and talk to someone, you have to wait so very long, and sometimes their phone system is down and you can't call at all. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | AETNA is the worst 1) There is a total lack of transparency. 2) Billing is slow and tedious. 3) The bureaucracy is terrible. Prepare to take a half day of work to talk with them. 4) The online web system is out-dated, slow, poorly designed, and difficult to navigate. 5) They have very high deductibles. 6) I have a history of melanoma skin cancer in my family. This form of cancer is basically untreatable, except with early detection and surgery. After following the growth of one of my moles for two years, the doctor recommended that I get it removed and sampled. They billed me over $500 total. 7) They will nickle and dime you. They will bill you for several different aspects of a visit and charge you copays for all of them. Your $10 copay can quickly turn into a $40-50 bill. 8) Even if you call ahead to find out how much something will cost - what they tell you on the phone, won't be what shows up on the bill. If you have them, always try to get something in writing. 9) After being very careful and calling ahead multiple times, choosing a professional through their online system, and having the professional provide written proof of my guaranteed coverage, now they are trying to charge me over $600. They claim the only way I can fight it is by going through a snail mail system of sending letters back and forth. We live in the 21st century - by now e-mail or the phone should be standard. There is no where that you can go, drive up, and speak to a person about your problems. They hide themselves behind a callous bureaucracy. Insurance companies like this deserve to be put in prison for life. Over the past year and half, I have had bad luck with my health and have been forced to use the health insurance system and I'm am sorely disappointed with AETNA. I will most definitely be transferring to Kaiser as soon as possible. Do yourself a favor and check out these other horror stories before you sign up with them: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#/group.php?gid=121454616144&ref=ts Plus - check out this informed blog on the terrible things that AETNA does - in particular read the posts about ERISA legislation - that will scare you: http://www.aetna-sucks.info/ Under ERISA, basically, even if you have insurance, they can simply deny you coverage if they think it will be expensive and the only thing you can sue them for is the premiums you paid over the years. "Even if benefits are improperly denied, the insurance company cannot be sued for any resulting injury or wrongful death, regardless of whether it acted in bad faith in denying benefits. Insurers operating ERISA plans enjoy several immunities not available to other types of insurance companies. ERISA preempts all conflicting state laws, including state statutes prohibiting unfair claims practices and causes of action arising under state common law for insurance bad faith.[3] There is no right to a jury trial in ERISA benefits actions.[4] Although Americans normally take for granted the right to testify on their behalf, plaintiffs have no right to present live testimony in ERISA bench trials, in which the judge simply reads through the documents which formed the record originally before the ERISA plan administrator and performs de novo review.[5] Finally, punitive damages are not allowed in actions for ERISA benefits.[6]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Employee_Retirement_Income_Security_Act Comments [ 0 ] |

The postitive things I can say is that one visit to the hospital came to over $7,000 and I only paid $220. The customer service isn't bad at all. They return calls when they say they're going to. | Review: | Lost Appointment I showed up for my standard GYN appointment - first time at a new doctor. The doctor's assistant was told by the recording and also by a representative (for confirmation) at Provider Services that I needed a referral from my PCP in order to see the GYN doctor. I had researched this beforehand and I do NOT need a referral according to my coverage details. I told this to the assistant who then told it to the Aetna representative. Then, the assistant handed me the phone. The Aetna representative said, "I do not know why she handed you the phone, I cannot talk to you." He repeated this several times and insisted to the assistant that I needed a referral. As soon as I got home, I checked my documents and found that I do not need a referral. I plan to make a formal complaint for wasting my time (I had to leave work in the middle of the day to get this appointment) and an appointment (which is hard to get). Comments [ 0 ] |

Every claim with aetna turned in to hours on the phone and fax only after months to get 10 cents on the dollar. DO NOT USE AETNA. Thier tactics are amazing. Usually the need more info. then when you send it they do nothing with it untill one day you call. Then they always say "oh, somehow this did not get re filed". after another month you call and they say "need more information" and you start all over again. I saw a documentary that interviewed a claims DR from Aetna who quit because the were paid big bonuses to deny claims and people were literally dying because of it. Comments [ 0 ] |

| Review: | Fails to follow through and live up to its claims We have had a few different carriers in the small business realm. In 2007 we switched to Aetna and we told it would be almost the same coverage at about $2000 less per employee. They told us generic drugs had a co-pay of $10 but then, after the switch, we discovered that numerous generics are charged at the $40 co-pay rate and only a specific list of generics has a $10 rate. We also were surprised by a cost of 50% of durable goods to be paid by us. Having a CPAP machine due to sleep apnea results in my having to pay an additional $1100 a year. All of that was covered in my previous coverage. Comments [ 0 ] |

At one point we had over $1,000 in bills for lab work, after I called and asked for the claims to be reviewed it turned out we owed $31.28. They paid my surgeon so little after my carpal tunnel surgery that he refused to operate on my second hand. It was very rare that a claim was just paid without an issue.
